"Why Knot?"™
I grew up in the Finger Lakes Region of New York where wine is the major attraction and golf isn't far behind. Personally, I cant think of a better combination. After eighteen holes, the chosen spot is the lake, on either beach or boat, with some friends and enough cocktails to last until the sun goes down.
Following graduation from St. Lawrence University, and plenty of hours trying to lower my handicap, I moved to Boston without knowing what lay ahead. Great friends already living there and that unbeatable east coast style of life were my only certainties. After some couch surfing and a few interviews, I found myself wearing a black suit, white shirt and a name tag; no pastels or madras allowed. I was happy to have a job, but pushing papers for a huge company wasn't what I had in mind.
At a company banquet I wore yellow pants with a ribbon belt and people asked me the entire dinner if I had received the email defining "business attire recommended." Must have missed that one. As the banquet went on I laughed off a few other comments and jokes about what I was wearing, none of which I thought were funny. Being jeered at only made me want to work harder so I would be able to live my life the best way I could and on my own terms.
With the economy not doing well and my savings almost nonexistent, I couldn't just quit. I had to keep my job and somehow make it coexist with what I wanted to do with my life outside of that office. For another year I put on my suit, punched a time clock and saved money while researching and creating my next move. Thinking about good times at St. Lawrence, friends and family back home, and that company banquet, it only made sense to create grosgrain ribbon belts. The best part of every day involved trading in my wingtips for flip-flops and my starched shirt for a well-worn t-shirt. Throw on some Nantucket reds and I might as well have been on the boat back home, surrounded by friends and living life how it should be. For these reasons and many late nights, Knot Belt Co. was officially born.
For now I've ditched my suit, untied my tie, and am searching for the nearest rum drink. I also hope you will loosen your knot and enjoy these belts, shirts, and accessories that we've created for people who value the best in life we all see at the end of the day. Thanks for checking out Knot Belt Co. and I hope you'll find a belt here that will support the best moments in your life. If there's anything I can do to help please let me know.
After all, why knot?™
